About Frank Strasser
Frank Strasser is a self-taught artist. He was born in Culver City, California, in 1954. As a grammar school student, he displayed gifts for writing, music, drawing and rebellion. One year, he received an art set for Christmas. Thus began a lifelong love affair with painting.
He continued experimenting in high school, took a few art classes in college and devoured books on art and literature. At 21, in 1976, he earned a BA in English from Loyola Marymount University. After graduation his real education began.
At 24, Frank quit a menial job, sold his VW Bug, bought a Eurail pass and a one way ticket to London. Utlimately, he toured nine countries, visiting every art museum and empty church he discovered along the way.
In Amsterdam, Frank was profoundly inspired by the vibrant palette of Van Gogh. He spent April in Paris, where he fell madly in love with the French Impressionists. When his wild fling with wanderlust (and his money), ran out, he flew home to Los Angeles.
Frank found a studio near the historic Venice Canals, where he worked to capture the quirky beauty and local color of Venice, California, on canvas. He has exhibited at The Social and Public Arts Resource Center, The Terrace, Cafe Buna, and Very Venice Gallery.
His art has been featured in the Venice Historical Society Journal and Free Venice Beachhead. His bright and festive acrylic on canvas paintings are collected all over the world. He has continued to paint and perform music in Venice, CA, for over 30 years.
